Over the last few weeks the first graders have been learning to knit! We started by making our very own knitting needles. Needle knitting is a great progression from finger knitting.
First we sanded down wooden dowels.
Then polished the wood and made clay beads for the ends.
Lastly, the knitting! Knitting is great fine motor skill practice, as well as mathematical thinking, patterning, problem solving, working through frustration, and best of all learning and knowing you can make something practical with your own two hands!
